US Armed Forces Executes Deadly Strike in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities
According to a high-ranking defense official, the American military carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”
Background and Recent Actions
This announcement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military buildup.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Tactics Amidst Pressure
The administration has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a top official appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
