Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that educators desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the administration to halt refugee claims and cease issuing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she also intended to meet with the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” he informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
