The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
