The saga started with a isolated photograph, arguably the most impactful ever snapped of a royal family member.

In the frame appeared the Duke of York, arm-in-arm a teenage girl, while an associate smiled suggestively in the background.

Absent that image, taken at a social event in 2001, few would have credited the assertions of a teenager who declared she was transported across the ocean and obliged to have cursory sexual encounters with a prince of the royal bloodline?

A curious, revealing action by someone who had publicly stated to have not known about her, asserted he could never have had sex with her, and yet handed over millions of his mother's resources to resolve a drawn-out court action.

A Long Period of Disgrace

In this context, conversations of the royal family acting firmly to distance themselves from Andrew are inaccurate. This controversy has persisted for the better part of 15 years since that photograph, and an additional photo of Andrew strolling amiably with a disgraced financier surfaced.

Andrew was putting all that in danger in an time when submission and discretion is no longer enough.

Finally, the well-known uncertain sovereign was pushed more. There was little choice. The royal household had relinquished authority of the account.
