Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
