Power Restoration Efforts in the Capital

Efforts carried on on Saturday to recover electricity in Kyiv, after Russian attacks.

Electricity had been returned to in excess of 800,000 citizens by Saturday and the largest private energy company said the main operations to restore power was concluded though some outages persisted.

Air Defence Efforts and Drone Interceptions

The Ukrainian defense forces downed or disrupted 54 out of 78 enemy drones sent towards Ukraine in the dark hours, the military said on Saturday.

Russia's defence ministry said it shot down forty-two Ukrainian drones over the country's airspace.

Cuban Government Denies Allegations of Deploying Troops to Ukraine

The Cuban government on Saturday refuted American allegations it has deployed military personnel to engage in the hostilities, while stating the government "lack exact data about Cuban nationals" engaged "voluntarily" or "as part of the armed units of either party".

I Want to Live, a official Kyiv initiative that promotes enemy combatants to surrender, stated in May: "We reliably know the identities and information of one thousand and twenty-eight Cuban nationals who signed contracts with the Russian armed forces in the past two years."

The Cuban foreign ministry said of Cuban nationals who might be participating: "Undeniably that not a single one have the encouragement, dedication, or authorization of the government in Havana for their actions."

Relatives of Cubans who departed to Russia in 2023 told news outlets at the time that their relatives had been deceptively recruited through promotions on online platforms.
