JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Aims to Address the Anime's Major Controversy

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an brand-new feature. Rather, the latest film from the JuJutsu Kaisen fantasy saga acts as a recap of the anime's second season merged with the initial episodes of its next season, which begins the Culling Games narrative from the source material. This establishes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the first way to view the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The film debuts in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is charged by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their long-awaited clash occurs for the very first time on the cinema screen, and if the artists at the production house have something as special as episodes 40 and 41 prepared for audiences this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the gift that we've been waiting for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is often hailed as one of the greatest sequences in anime history, despite the major issues in 2023 when the installments originally aired. It was stated that the artists were facing tight schedules to the extent, and the broadcast edition that premiered at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the team first envisioned.

The Intense Confrontation

The sequence features a heavily anticipated fight between two powerful sorcerers, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It features unique visual techniques, excellent direction, and dynamic fight choreography. A later Blu-ray release gave the animators a chance to insert new moments to expand the conflict. So it seemed possible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, looking at the new trailer, it's unclear if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a moment so epic has to be watched on the cinema screen with the best presentation possible.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the top anime of the year, and when the two-part finale were released back to back, it was the subject of discussion for multiple weeks in the animation fandom. Viewers were aware of the problems with the production, which made them appreciate what they saw even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the disc version, released on March 18, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was polished at all, and were elated to see just that, alongside color corrections, enhanced animation, and revised visual style.

The Movie's Opportunity

But the home video can only touch up what has previously shown in the original airing, whereas the film has the potential to fully realize the scene with further changes and new animations entirely.

A Masterpiece

As it stands, these two episodes serve as the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by the studio, especially considering the debate they faced at the time. It's drawn the focus of series enthusiasts all over the globe, and the Culling Games arc is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the following year. If the studio wants to kick off the year perfectly, revisit the anime's greatest sequence once again in movie houses with the finest version we've seen yet.
