Fury Erupts as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Backlash

Personalities from across the political aisle and the entertainment world are coming together to denounce former President Donald Trump for his remarks following the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Online Statement

After the couple were found deceased at their Los Angeles residence, Trump took to social media to label the deceased director as "anguished and suffering". In a post, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the anger he caused others through his enormous, unyielding, and untreatable affliction with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Police Developments and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the arrest of the couple's adult son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the case. It is reported his bond was established at a substantial sum.

A Wave of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's words was immediate and scathing.

This is a disgusting and vile statement,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly condemned the statements. Goldberg referenced previous comments from Trump regarding political violence, demanding, "Have you no decency? Can you get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly stated, "This is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a despicable piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "Trump has just lost it. Now saying the Reiners brought on their own murder because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from Within Party

Some GOP lawmakers also expressed disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". She also mentioned struggles with addiction and psychological well-being some families face.

Another GOP congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disrespectful" considering the circumstances. He openly challenged members in his party to defend the comments.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also cautioned about the dangers of autocracy if Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner said. "If we fall, there’s a risk that democratic systems crumble around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and condemned political violence without reservation after the shooting of a different political figure.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the anecdote of the session, mentioning Trump's demand for "special hairspray" as posing on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
