Followers Urge Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are calling for that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals requested online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a dual adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of last year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, winning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
