A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
